Dr. John Kua is currently deputy director
of Experimental Power Grid Centre (EPGC) under A*STAR, Singapore’s public
science and technology research agency. At EPGC, he is involved in the
development of an advanced microgrid facility for the research and development
into microgrids, distributed generation technologies and sustainable energy
solutions.
Prior to this, he has worked on research and technology
development projects in aerospace, defense systems, software and automotive
fields for over 20 years, in both government defence research labs and in
government-linked technology companies. For the past ten years, he has been
specializing in system integration and development of advanced electric/hybrid
and fuel cell vehicle systems in Singapore as well as in the Asia Pacific
region. He has also ventured out on his own technology startup, including
development of an advanced microprocessor-controlled, AC electric motor drive
system used for electric vehicles and has also worked in technology consulting
and business development in both China and the U.S. in electric vehicle systems.
A mechanical engineer by profession, his area of work in
engineering has also extended to engineering systems integration, power
electronics and technology development. He obtained his Ph.D. in Technology
Management from Australia in 2004.
