John P. Absmeier is the Asia-Pacific
director of business development, and manager of advanced engineering for hybrid
and electric vehicles and power electronics for Delphi Corporation. In this
role, he has been responsible for developing Delphi’s hybrid vehicle business in
Asia (China, India, Korea, and Japan) including local supplier development and
evaluation, sales, engineering and mass production of components and systems for
hybrid and electric vehicles.
Throughout his career, he served at various prestigious
levels, beginning with Delco Electronics as a vehicle systems engineer,
developing Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. He was responsible for a variety of
software and hardware advanced development programs for major automotive
manufacturers around the world (including GM, Chrysler, PSA, BMW, and more).
Following his work in alternative energy vehicles, John took charge of the
Electronics and Control Systems Group for Delphi Corporation’s Solid Oxide Fuel
Cell program as the group leader, where his responsibilities included leading
all electronics and controls hardware and software development activities. After
Absmeier’s work in Fuel Cells, he has held management positions in advanced
safety and telematics systems.
Absmeier has over 13 years experience in alternative energy
applications for transportation, industrial and household use and has held
numerous positions in engineering, operations, sales, supplier development,
project management and general management. In addition, he holds several patents
in the areas of automotive components and alternative energy and has been
published in multiple journals and professional publications (SAE, ASME, Auto
News China, CAR India, Nikkan Jidosha News, Auto Times Korea and more).
Absmeier holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical
Engineering from Purdue University, a Master of Science in Mechanical
Engineering from University of California Berkeley, and a Master in Management
of Technology from Haas School of Business at University of California Berkeley.
